BOARD OF TRUSTEES REGULAR MEETING
October 8, 2025

PROPOSED Minutes

Present: President Jon Halvorson, Vice President Cynthia Pratt, Treasurer Nancy Miller, and Trustees Larry Ganders, Denise Keegan, Cheryl Malkmus, Tim McGuire, Ed Sorger, John Turner, Paul Webb and Margie Wyllie. Secretary John Dziedzic was excused. Guests in attendance Yvette Burroughs and Al Johnson.

President Halvorson convened the meeting at 4:00 p.m. and acknowledged that a quorum was present.

Agenda/Previous Minutes: M/S/P Vice President Pratt moved and Trustee Webb seconded a motion to approve the agenda as presented. The motion was adopted. M/S/P Trustee McGuire moved and Trustee Keegan seconded a motion to approve the Minutes of the August 13, 2025 meeting of the Board of Trustees as presented. The motion was adopted.

Treasurer’s Report: Treasurer Miller distributed financial statements for August 31 and September 30, 2025, which show three certificates of deposit (CDs) scheduled to mature before the end of the year. M/S/P Trustee Turner moved and Vice President Pratt seconded a motion to “roll over” or re-invest the total proceeds into three CDs with the Washington State Employees Credit Union and Olympia Federal Savings & CDs, at the best rate and term as determined by the Treasurer. The motion carried.
President Halvorson had a couple of posters made for the society totaling $ 66.89 and requested approval for reimbursement. M/S/P Trustee Turner moved and Trustee Wyllie seconded a motion to approve the $ 66.89 expenditure and approve the Treasurer’s report as presented. The motion was adopted.

President Halvorson’s report: President Halvorson reported that we now have up to 15 trustees allowed on our board approved at our last annual meeting held September 9, 2025. M/S/P Vice President Pratt moved and Trustee Webb seconded a motion to approve Yvette Burroughs as a Trustee. The motion was adopted.

Significant historical events scheduled for 2026-Nationwide events planned during our 250 year old United States signing our Declaration of Independence on July 4 and the city of Lacey’s 60th anniversary since incorporation on December 5th.
President Halvorson introduced Al Johnson who spoke on his interest in becoming involved with LHS as well as his daughter.

Dr. Ehlers project update: Trustee Webb presented an update of the Dr. Ehlers project, which includes efforts to obtain approval from the City of Lacey to reserve space for the statue at the Community Center. Once we receive their approval, we will finalize our marketing and fundraising plans.

Website & Facebook Report update: Trustee Ganders reported the advantages of coordinating all communications in the many areas of social media, including a new Instagram account, the website, and LHS events as well as the annual meeting. Trustee Ganders reported tests with Trustee Webb’s recent post, Facebook analytics recorded a 409 view-spike on the exact day of the post (Sept 23) and interest continued through Oct. 7. The post was coordinated with the LHS newsletter and similar content for the website would be helpful.

September 9th LHS Annual Meeting Review: Vice President Pratt recapped our annual meeting, recognizing past historians was successful, the meeting ran smoothly and there were approximately 45 in attendance.

Marketing Plan and LHS Grants: President Halvorson suggests LHS consider contracting with students or others to gather historical information by researching and interviewing individuals with historical events to preserve our historical heritage.

Next meeting: The next meeting of the Board of Trustees is scheduled for November 12, 2025,at the Lacey Fire department main station. A suggestion was made to send the fire chief thanking them for allowing LHS to meet monthly without a fee.
There being no additional discussion President Halvorson declared the meeting adjourned. The meeting was adjourned at 5:18 p.m.
